PVMs offer the absolute pinnacle of analog video quality and are very expensive.įor my own setup, I use an SCPH-7501 model PS1 with HD Retrovision's Genesis YPbPr cable with their PS1 adapter. Either use an RGB SCART cable and convert the signal to component and use with a compatible TV, or buy a professional video monitor (PVM) and get a SCART to BNC breakout cable and hook it up through that. You have two options to remedy this situation. Double-unfortunately, North American consumer CRTs simply don't support RGB over SCART or JP-21 (SCART and JP-21 are the names of the physical connectors). Unfortunately, the PS1 doesn't natively support component video output (the highest quality analog signal) so you'll have to go with RGB for comparable quality. Depending on the CRT you can find/choose, it may support significantly higher quality inputs such as S-Video or component. Most people are familiar with composite cables for retro consoles, but that'll give you a sub-par picture. You will NEED a CRT for the game, no exceptions. The thing about Silent Hill 1 is that it doesn't play nice with modern digital displays due to the fact that the game regularly switches between the resolutions 240p and 480i, which - on top of looking like ASS on a modern screen - causes sync drops making the game nigh-unplayable. ![]() Not a PS2 or a PS3, as those have backwards compatibility and emulation errors.
